Good morning, welcome to the second CGTN Global Media Summit here in Chongqing. Inaugurated last year with the theme of "A Shared Future", our event now sharpens its focus on "Openness, Connectivity and Association". We hope this specific set of values will inform the mentality of the world's media organizations and the ecology of our industry in general.

Right now, all mainstream outlets across the globe are actively embracing media integration and upgrade; CGTN is no exception. As an international media organization from the East and from China, we carry in our genes the distinctive temperament of this ancient civilization. China's cultural and philosophical traditions have been a source of my thoughts and explorations about CGTN's role in international communication, which I'd like to share with you today.

Opinion: 'Openness, Connectivity, Association' - New ecology for media industry

2018 marks 60 years of China's television industry as well as the founding of China Media Group. During my 31 years working in television, I have witnessed how it has emerged as an established medium and how it is adapting to the transformations brought about by new technologies and new methods of content generation and distribution. In this era of media convergence, I deeply feel the extent and depth of these ongoing changes. For traditional media, the road to restructuring and reinventing is fraught with challenges. However, waiting and hesitation will only cost us valuable time and opportunities. Only by accelerating and embracing the transformations and upgrades, can we generate new momentum and seize the advantages in the midst of changes.

CGTN Launches its Global Partners Program and International Talent Program

China Global Television Network (CGTN) has launched the Global Partners Project and International Talent Project to invite global communications media and related companies to forge a cooperation partnership with CGTN and appoint persons with virtue and ability on the occasion of the first anniversary of its establishment in a bid to go with the tide of change and cooperation to take up the challenges in the media industry in the present day.

CGTN in 2017 by CGTN Controller Jiang Heping

Chinese President Xi Jinping said in a congratulatory letter to China Global Television Network (CGTN) on its launch one year ago that CGTN should be culturally confident, news-focused, audience-aware, and use integrated media to tell stories about China well and spread China's voice well with abundant news and information, a clear-cut Chinese perspective and a broad world vision. With the multi-language CCTVNEWS channels combining into CGTN, which then became a multi-language and multi-platform flagship media grouping for external publicity of China, CGTN's development in 2017 was an epitome of "Fortune favors the diligent and times are changing fast" as President Xi said in his 2018 New Year speech.
